July 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Kris Versteeg, the much acclaimed ice hockey winger was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Chicago Blackhawks as part of a five player deal.
Apart from Kris Versteeg, the Maple leafs also got the rights to 21 year old left winger Bill Sweatt while the Blackhawks received the rights to Viktor Stalberg as well as Philippe Paradis and Christopher DiDomenico during the settlement that was reached on Wednesday night.
The 24 year old player who is a native of Lethbridge, has managed to score 44 points which includes 20 goals and 14 assists during the 79 regular season games for the Chicago Blackhawks last year. At the same time, Kris Versteeg had also been successful in garnering 11 short-handed points in the past two seasons and was also a plus-8 with four game winners.
The inclusion of the noted player in the Toronto Maple Leafs comes about a week after the Blackhawks traded to Dustin Byfuglien to the Atlanta Thrashers along with Brent Sopel and Ben Eager.
While reacting to the addition of Kris Versteeg in the Toronto Maple Leafs team, Stan Bowman who happens to be the general manager of the Chicago Blackhawks revealed through a conference call that he has no clue how the Leafs intended to use 24 year old player in their team.
The Chicago general manager also described Kris Versteeg as a talented player who was capable of doing a lot of different things on the court. The trade which resulted in Kris Versteeg joining the Toronto Maple Leafs took place just few hours prior to the commencement of the National Hockey League’s free agency period.
