Chevron Houston Marathon Registration Draws Many

runningblocksexamBrian Cannell was in Germany last year when his training group received an e mail which asked the members to participate in the Chevron Houston Marathon 2009 as fast as possible as the fields were filling up with a host of contestants registering their name in order to participate in the marathon.

“I was having a band day, so I didn’t get around it,” Cannell said about participating in the marathon which was supposed to be his first. Later on he was disappointed to find that not only the registration was closed, but he was also on the 4,000th one to be posted in the waiting list.

The rush regarding the Chevron Houston Marathon, which is supposed to be held on 17th January, next year has forced many athletes to sign up the registration form this Friday, before the queue gets long enough to debar most of them. Kathryn Vidal, who has taken part in 14 Houston Marathons also said that he will be registering for the grand event this Friday that is today, in order to avoid the rush.

Another sell out for the marathon and the Aramco Houston Half marathon is certainly on the cards. The race which will be staged on January 17, 2009, will witness certain changes regarding the event. The size of the field has been increased to 22,000 thus providing another 4,000 slots. Other changes in the event are “Heroes Charity Entries”. For a mere $350 dollar extra, runners can donate to a charity of their choice and can wear a “custom” bib.

The recent rush regarding the registration has been a major concern for the participants who fear that if late, they will be featured in the waiting list.
