Chetan to face Kashyap in badminton tourney final

New Delhi, March 20 (IANS) National Champion Chetan Anand of ONGC and IOCL’s P. Kashyap registered facile wins Thursday to set up a title clash in the 29th Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) badminton tournament at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here. Chetan outplayed teammate Siddharth Jain 21-12, 21-13 in the first semi-final, while young Kashyap defeated Ravinder Singh of GAIL 21-13, 21-13 in the other.

Meanwhile, in the women’s category, BPCL’s Aditi Mutatkar will take on Aparna Balan of IOCL in the final Friday.

Aditi prevailed over B.R Meenakshi of IOCL 21-17, 21- 13, while Aparna demolished GAIL’s Neelima Chetri 21-3, 21-4.

Rupesh Kumar and V. Diju of ONGC won the men’s doubles title beating teammate Thomas Kurien and Siddharth Jain 21-10, 21-8.

Rupesh and Diju got a bye in the semi-final against IOCL combination of Nikhil Kanitkar and J.B.S Vidhyadhar, while Thomas and Siddharth defeated another IOCL combination - Jaseen Ismail and Marcus Bristow 21-14, 21-10.

Top women’s combination of Jwala Gutta and Shruti Kurien had clinched the doubles title Wednesday beating Meenakshi and Aparna 21-15, 21-13.
