Chennai to host Volvo Regatta
October 8th, 2009 - 9:21 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Oct 8 (IANS) The Volvo India International Regatta will be held here Nov 1-8 with 12 countries, including India, taking part.
Briefing the media here Thursday, Ashok Thakkar, Commodore, Tamil Nadu Sailing Association, said Indian sailors will undergo training from Oct 20 under coaches from Singapore and Australia.
Akash Passey, managing director, Volvo Buses India Pvt Ltd, the principal sponsors, said: “Today we are synonymous with the most gruelling race in the world, the Volvo Ocean Race, which we have been holding for more than 20 years and last year they made the first stop in India. This event is going to be an annual feature in Chennai from now.”
