Chennai Police to probe IPL scam, summon Lalit Modi
October 15th, 2010 - 6:46 pm ICT by IANSChennai, Oct 15 (IANS) Chennai Police will soon issue a summons to former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner Lalit Modi, following a complaint lodged against him by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a senior police official said Friday.
“We are consulting legal experts on the complaint lodged by the BCCI against Modi. We will conduct our investigation and shortly issue summons to Modi,” Chennai Police Commissioner T.Rajendra told reporters.
He also said the Enforcement Directorate has asked the Mumbai regional passport office to revoke Modi’s passport. Modi is currently in Great Britain.
The directorate Thursday also issued a look-out circular, or alert to detain a person on entering the country, against Modi.
In its complaint against Modi and six others, lodged by its secretary N.Srinivasan, the BCCI has charged them with misappropriation of funds to the tune of of around Rs.468 crore.
The police complaint has been lodged several months after the IPL scam broke out and the contracts of Rajasthan Royals and King’s XI Punjab IPL teams were terminated recently.
