Chelsea not desperate for Torres: Ancelotti

London, Jan 29 (ANI): Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti has said that making an offer to Fernando Torres does not make the club desperate for the ace striker.
Denying suggestions that he is under orders from club owner Roman Abramovich to appease fans with a couple of superstar signings, Ancelotti said: “It is not desperation when you bid for players like Torres and David Luiz.”
“The club is always looking to the future and to improve the squad. Our policy has not changed. We did not need to spend in the summer after winning the Double. Now maybe there is a chance to sign someone,” The Sun quoted him, as saying.
“But even if we do not get anyone in this transfer window, we will still have a fantastic squad. At the moment we haven’t spent anything. We must all wait until Monday,” Ancelotti said.
For a year Chelsea have been operating under severe financial restrictions in an effort to move out of the red before UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules kick in.
High earners like Deco, Michael Ballack, Joe Cole, Ricardo Carvalho and Juliano Belletti were all allowed to leave in the summer just to remove them from the wage bill. (ANI)
