charlieDec. 01, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Charlie Weis was fired by his team on Monday. He left the team with the record of being the worst Fighting Irish coach in the history of the game. The news was announced by the athletic director of the University of Notre Dame, Jack Swarbrick. He still had six years left to his contract before the university dispensed of his services.

Weis was the coach of the Fighting Irish team. The decision of firing him was more or less expected, but the University of Notre Dame had announced on Sunday that the authorities would not come to a final decision before Monday. Ever since the appointment of Charlie, the University had lost at least three games every season, sometimes even more. Weis holds the record for having a lower winning percentage than his predecessors. He has the victory in only one bowling game to his credit. The University had been the alma mater of the former coach. He was fired after being with the university for five years.

Swarbrick said that it was a difficult decision for the college to take, especially keeping in mind that the man in question is a veteran and that he had been a student of the very University. Earlier at a press conference, he had commented that it was important for him to bring back the position of the University as it had been before, with 837 wins and several national titles. It has not yet been confirmed as to who would be replacing Weis, but there are speculations that the University is trying to rope in Bob Stoops, the coach of the football team of University of Oklahoma.
