Pete CarrollDec. 07, (THAINDIAN NEWS) After spreading the rumor that the coach of the football team of the University of Southern California, Pete Carroll, is shacking up with a graduate student somewhere in Malibu, Charlie Weis apologized publicly for the slip. The news had spread like wildfire. It would not have been so scandalizing if Pete Carroll had not been the stereotype of the regular family man. He has a wife and kids, and even a grandchild, and therefore, the news that he is spending the time he in not training the Trojans has indeed come as a shocker.

Needless to say, this bit of news is too spicy for the scandal mongers to let go of. The irony is this, that, this time the rumor was not spread by some anonymous prankster. The former coach did not exactly say anything against the USC coach, but dropped very transparent hints. When asked if it felt frustrating to be in this position when there is Pete Carroll on the other side, Charlie Weis said that nobody questioned it if Pete Carroll shacked up with a grad student somewhere.

The remark was probably an allusion to the fact that he had often been criticized for using foul language. However, after he made the comments, he apologized for them. He said that he did not mean to offend the University of Southern California coach, and that he did not actually target Pete Carroll in his interview either, but had taken his name at random to cite an example. Instead, he insisted, he had been trying to emphasize the adverse effect the rumor mills can have on the lives of the people.
