Centurion Prior praises fast bowler Broad

London, Aug 1 (ANI): Centurion Matt Prior, whose ton took England to the brink of victory, has praised pace bowler Stuart Broad for giving Pakistan early jolt in their run chase.

Pakistan were left chasing 435 to win the First Test but were left reeling on 15-3 at the close after having the heart torn out of them by two- wicket Broad.

“The way the guys responded when we had that 25-minute spell at them summed up the day and this team. The way Broady and Jimmy Anderson fired in at them has put us in a strong position,” News of the World quoted Prior, as saying.

“Getting three figures is fantastic but the most important thing to me was putting the team in the position to win the game. I had a huge amount of confidence in him. We just played a county game against each other and I watched him get a 36-ball nought not out which was annoying,” he said.

“When he walked to the wicket I said ‘Same again please, mate’ and he did a fantastic job. It wasn’t just the way he played but the way he contributed between overs. As soon as he said he was confident to hold up an end I wasn’t going to turn singles down,” he added.

Prior has been under pressure after losing his one-day place to Craig Kieswetter but proved his worth in Test cricket with a timely century.

“International cricket is about pressure and how you respond. I have not played a day for England not under pressure and I embrace it. It brings the best out of me,” he said. (ANI)
