Diana Taurasi, the female basket ball player who plays for Phoenix Mercury in WNBA was allegedly cited for drunken driving just a few hours after the club’s win over the Seattle Storm.
Phoenix police spokes person, Luis Samudio said that an officer stopped Taurasi at around 2.30 a.m. for driving recklessly. Reports said that the officer smelled alcohol and forced Taurasi to go through several sobriety tests in order to confirm that she was drunk while driving.
The accusation came just after Taurasi scored 22 points and defended four shots during Phoenix’s 93-81 win over the storm.
Taurasi who hails from Chino, California was selected in the 2004 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury. She is also the recipient of the “WNBA Rookie Of The Year” award. Diana Taurasi was also selected for the US Women’s National Basket ball team for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The grand event was prosperous for her as she helped the United States to win the gold medal by defeating Australia in the finals.
The fresh controversy revolving around her drink and drive case has not been put into a good picture by the media. According to the sources, Taurasi was also asked to provide a blood sample to confirm the alcohol content. The series of sobriety tests were conducted beforehand by the officer.
Taurasi has not only earned bronze medal for the 2001 USA Junior Championship Team but also a gold medal as a member of the 2000 USA Basketball Women’s Junior World Championship Qualifying team. Reports say that if proven guilty, the basket ball genius can get involved in a serious tiff with the law.
