Jan 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Caster Semenya is an athlete whose future and career has got entangled in the mess of politics and gender related issues. The Teenage South African Athlete shot to fame after emerging the winner in 800 meter race. However, things turned out to be different for her since August of 2009. The politics and furor over her sexual identity has overshadowed her potential as an athlete. The IAFF, known as the ultimate authority in World Sports declared that it would disclose its finding by November 2009. However, that never happened. As per the latest reports, the frustrated and angry athlete may go as far as suing the entity.
Just after she won the 800-meter event last year at World track, the IAAF issued orders for her to undergo sex tests. It was reported that her muscular build and improvement in performance led IAAF to take that step. Two Australian dailies wrote that she is a hermaphrodite but it remains to be validated.
Even if the findings of the sex test are not made available, the question and controversy will remain. There could be several possibilities if the results are not disclosed. Caster Semenya may carry on as a woman athlete for the rest of her career. However, that may not be likely considering the South Africa team doctor, Harold Adams recommended her withdrawal. She might make a comeback after the treatment. The worst possibility is that she may fade away from the sports world.
Nick Davies, an IAAF spokesperson said that until the organization reaches a conclusion, he cannot make any comment on the subject. The sex tests are still in progress.
