Chandigarh, Aug 3 (IANS) In partial relief to Bollywood actress Priety Zinta and other three owners of Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kings XI Punjab, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Tuesday stayed the proceedings of a case against them in a local court here till Sep 22.
“Justice Nirmaljit Kaur has put a stay on the proceedings of this case, giving relief to my client and other three owners of Kings XI team. Further decisions will be taken on September 22,” D.S. Patwalia, her counsel, told IANS.
The case against the Kings XI Punjab owners was filed by the Registrar of Companies (ROC) office in April, accusing them of not submitting their balance sheet and returns.
The local court had summoned Preity, industrialist Ness Wadia, and businessmen Mohit Burman and Karan Paul July 24. Bailable arrest warrants were issued for Preity, Wadia and Burman, by the same court, after the three owners failed to appear before the court.
An arrest warrant against Paul was not issued since his counsel appeared before the court.
However, Preity’s counsel Tuesday filed a petition in the high court demanding the quashing of both summon orders and bailable warrants.
Kings XI Punjab team has its headquarters at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali town in Punjab, 10 km from here.
The team has not been doing well in the last three editions of the IPL despite having big names like Yuvraj Singh, Kumar Sangakkara, Brett Lee and Irfan Pathan in its ranks. In the last edition, the team was placed last.
