Carroll will be better than Drogba, says Joe Cole

Fernando Torres London, Mar 31(ANI): Liverpool Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole has dubbed Andy Carroll as the new Didier Drogba.

Cole, who played alongside Drogba at Stamford Bridge before his free transfer to the Reds last year, reckons that the 22-year-old can prove just as deadly as Drogba.

“Andy has made such an impact in such a short space of time. He could be anything that he wants to be, really, and he reminds me of a young Drogba. Andy’s height means we can now play long and you need to be able to do that in the Premier League these days,” the Sun quoted Cole, as saying.

“He’s very much like Drogba. But Andy’s only 22 and, while we all know what a cracking player Didier is, he wasn’t playing at this level at that age. There’s still a lot of developing for Andy to do,” he added.

Liverpool paid 35 million pounds for Carroll’s transfer from Newcastle United in January, which is the highest for a British footballer and the eighth highest for any footballer.

He is the second most expensive player playing for a British club, behind Fernando Torres, who moved from Liverpool to Chelsea for 50 million pounds on the same day Carroll signed for the Reds. (ANI)
