Carrick urges Tevez to not leave ManU
April 24th, 2009 - 2:57 pm ICT by ANILondon, Apr 24 (ANI): England midfielder Michael Carrick has begged Carlos Tevez to not leave the Manchester United.
The Manchester United midfielder issued a desperate plea to his Argentinean teammate to rethink his threat to quit Old Trafford at the end of the season.
The Sun reported on Thursday that Tevez, 25, was fed up being sidelined for United’s big games and wants to play abroad for family reasons.
But Carrick stars hope he will have a change of heart. He said: “We want him to stay, Carlos is a top player. He has scored some very important goals for us over the last few years.
“We’ve got a world-class squad, we’ve got world- class players and Carlos is one of them. We want to keep moving forward as a team and as a squad so we’d like to keep our best players here. But it’s down to the manager. I’m sure he knows the best way to make sure we do keep progressing,” Carrick said.
Carrick also backed United striker Dimitar Berbatov to put his FA Cup disappointment behind him, starting against their old club Spurs on Saturday.
“He’s a vital player for us and I think he’ll show that in these important games we’ve got coming up. There’s no doubt he’ll come good and he’s only going to get better the longer he stays at United. The fans will see what a top-drawer player he is,” Carrick said. (ANI)
