New York, Sep 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki registered a straight set victory over former champion Maria Sharapova to grab a slot at the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open 2010. The top-seeded player justified her position at the zenith of the ranking as she went to defeat her opponent through a straight set 6-3, 6-4 victory during the fourth round match of the U.S. Open on Monday.
The showdown between the Caroline Wozniacki and Maria Sharapova isn’t something that all the ardent fans of the Russian beauty would like to remember for a long as the former grand slam champion went on to make nine double faults while also making 36 unforced errors which left her supporters at the Arthur Ashe Stadium Court at the Flashing Meadows rather dismayed. Although initially Maria Sharapova started the game quite impressively, during the fourth game she delivered a flurry of double faults which resulted in the former champion falling 3-1 behind. This was the very first time that Caroline Wozniacki was clashing against the Russian beauty and the former surely did not make any mistakes in taking full advantage of the mistakes that were unfortunately made by the former World No.1.
After registering the stunning win against Maria Sharapova, the Danish tennis player would now be clashing with Dominika Cibulkova in the quarter-finals after the Slovakian reserved an impressive victory against another former champion Russian player Svetlana Kuznetsova. While responding to her win, Caroline Wozniacki later talked to reporters about her Russian opponent calling her a tough fighter although she went on to add that she was extremely happy to finally emerge victorious.
