Melbourne, Jan 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki sealed her victory at the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with a stellar performance on Tuesday, advancing to the semi-finals of the prestigious championship. The 20-year-old player defeated her Italian opponent 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 giving her best shot at Rod Laver Arena to get one step closer to her materializing her dream of winning the Australian Open grand slam. Caroline Wozniacki made a gritty comeback after suffering an early setback in the first set of the game and went on to deliver an impressive performance that secured her victory in the do-or-die clash.
Losing an early set and trailing by 3-1, did not deter the world number one Danish tennis star as she went on to battle really hard and win the second set. Although Francesca Schiavone tried her very best to give a tough competition to her opponent, her successful tussle with Svetlana Kuznetsova just two days ago in the longest women’s match in Grand Slam history, seemed to have finally taken a toll on her as she enabled her Danish opponent to score some easy points with a number of glitches on her part. As for Caroline Wozniacki, she seemed to be taking full advantage of the mistakes committed by her Italian opponent.
The 20-year-old tennis star’s win during Tuesday’s game was all the more special for her as it would mean that Caroline Wozniacki would be able to retain her world number one slot irrespective of what how the rest of the Australian Open goes for her. The Danish player would be facing China’s Li Na in the semi-finals of the tournament.
