London, Mar 28(ANI): West Ham United striker Carlton Cole has leapt to the top of Arsenal’s wanted list after they were given first option on him.
Arsenal made their move for Cole after doubts over Marouane Chamakh’s switch from Bordeaux emerged.
Chamakh has been a long-term Arsenal target, but now they are ready to turn their attention to 12 million pound rated Cole.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has found it difficult with the team, as Robin van Persie has been out since Christmas, while Nicklas Bendtner, Eduardo and Carlos Vela have only been impressive in short spells, The News of The World reports.
Cole has injury problems this season, but managed to score nine goals in 18 Premier League games.
Meanwhile, West Ham co-owner David Sullivan is prepared lose many of his expensive players if the club is relegated into the Championship.
Sullivan has also said that the club’s debts have crept as high as 110 million pounds. (ANI)
