London, Feb 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) British boxer Carl Froch has become the subject of investigation by British authorities after he admitted prolonging a bout because of a bet. The former WBC Super Middleweight champion made the admission during a chat with BBC on some comments which were published in his 2011 autobiography.

Froch revealed that he could have beaten Reuben Groenewald much earlier when the two met in 2005. He however admitted that he intentionally delayed ending the bout because there was a bet that the bout will end in the fifth round. He had the opportunity to end the bout in the fourth round but intentionally failed to do so.

The British Boxing Board of Control has indicated that they will extend an invitation to Froch to further investigate his claims. Nonetheless, Froch insist that he did nothing wrong.

He said that, “I’ve done it more than one occasion and it was round five but that’s not illegal… I can openly say that because if I’m good enough to step on the gas in round five and force the stoppage then that’s my privilege, and that’s what I did in this particular fight at the Arena for the Commonwealth title defence.”

Fixing the outcome of a sport ahead of the start is often regarded as illegal.
