London, Aug 12 (IANS) England football coach Fabio Capello says former captain David Beckham is a little too “old” to play for the country and will be given a friendly in November to bid adieu to his international career.
Capello said Beckham will get an opportunity to play a future friendly, probably against France Nov 17.
“I say thank you very much for helping me at the World Cup but he is a little bit old to represent the country again. He will play one friendly to say bye bye,” Capello was quoted as saying by the Telegraph.
Beckham has earned 115 international caps for Engalnd, the highest for any outfield player and 10 short of Peter Shilton’s overall record.
The former Manchester United mid-fielder was the liasion between the players and the coach in England’s disastrous World Cup 2010 campaign
Beckham’s agent, however, ruled out the possibility of Beckham’s retirement from international football.
“Beckham will always be available for the country. He has no intention of hanging up his boots. When fit and needed, he will be there.”
