Capello to announce World Cup squad on May 30
March 7th, 2010 - 1:36 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar 6(ANI): England manager Fabio Capello has revealed that he will call his 30-man provisional squad in a sudden death team meeting at their Austrian training camp, and then fire off the final list of 23 names who will travel to the World Cup.
Capello has promised a rapid execution at the Hotel Schloss Pichlarn, with seven heartbroken players travelling back to England after the friendly in Graz against Japan on May 30.
“I prefer to speak with the players. We will have a meeting and we will speak together,” News of the World quoted Capello, as saying.
“I will say ‘Thank you very much but…’ It will not be the best moment for me. All the players that have been with me are really good footballers,” he added.
Capello insists the meeting will be short and to the point, with the hopefuls immediately packing their bags and flying back to England.
“There will be one meeting and then afterwards I will speak with the players. I think it will be important for all the players to know what is my decision,” Capello said.
“In the last week in Austria before the last game against Japan I have to decide. I will decide before the match,” he added.
For the last two World Cups, Sven-Goran Eriksson named his squad publicly, with the players finding out if they were in through the media. (ANI)
