Canal parade planned for World Cup finalist Netherlands
July 11th, 2010 - 3:50 pm ICT by ANICape Town, July 11(ANI): Netherlands plan to mark World Cup final glory with a canal parade through Amsterdam.
Dutch Football Association chiefs have hatched the plan for Bert van Marwijk’s side to sail through the capital if they see off Spain in tonight’s final at Johannesburg’s Soccer City.
Netherlands has twice reached the final- in 1974 and 1978- but have yet to lift the trophy.
The Dutch squad will remain in Johannesburg after the match, but are set to return home tomorrow.
More than a million fans are expected to line the parade route, if the team can clinch the trophy, News of The World reports.
Marwijk’s men go into the final unbeaten in 25 matches and bolstered by 14 successive wins, in qualifying and the tournament to date, in the World Cup. (ANI)
