Cameroon reduce Eto’o 15-match suspension to 8 months
January 8th, 2012 - 7:17 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Yaounde (Cameroon) Jan 8 (IANS) Cameroon’s football federation (Fecafoot) has reduced the 15-match suspension on captain Samuel Eto’o to eight-months and that of midfielder Enoh Eyong from two matches to two months. This decision was taken following a long meeting of the national executive committee of the federation Saturday. Eto’o and Eyong were sanctioned by the disciplinary committee of the federation Dec 16 for inciting the ‘Indomitable Lions’ not to travel to Algeria for a friendly in November because of non-payment of bonuses of some previous matches, Xinhua reported.
The country had to finally pay 250 million CFA francs in compensation to Algeria following an “amicable arrangement,” said Fecafoot secretary general Sidiki Tombi a Roko.
In another decision, the committee lifted the one million CFA francs fine imposed on Tottenham defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto for skipping the LG tournament in Marrakech, Morocco, while former international David Mayebi and president of the country’s footballers trade union was sacked from the federation for his open criticism of the sanctions imposed on the three players.
Meanwhile, former team captain Rigobert Bahanag Song has been appointed the manager of the national squad.
