New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) The inaugural Callaway Golf Junior Tour kick-starts in India Saturday and will see the participation of the country’s budding golfers.

The tour will witness top junior golfers of the country like Vani Kapoor, Piyush Sangwan, Firoze Garewal, Abhishek Kuhar, Jairaj Sandhu, Sehar Atwal, Vrishali Sinha and Harshjit Sethi.

This tour is a joint effort on behalf of Callaway Golf India and K & A Golf and will host eight golf leagues across major golf cities in India to choose the national winner.

The two winners will get a spot to play at the world’s biggest junior golf tournament, the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships in 2012, which will be held in San Diego.

The tour will tee-off, from Delhi and will come to other cities such as Bangalore, Kolkata, Pune and Chandigarh by May 2012.

“Golf is one of the fastest growing sports in India but there are very limited opportunities available for the juniors compared to the general growth in the industry,” country head Callaway Golf India, Vivek Mehta, said.

“The future champions of Indian golf will emerge by providing more and more opportunities and exposure to junior golfers. We want to nurture talent at the grass root level and want to prepare India to identify talent for the Olympics.”

The Callaway Junior World Golf Championship has grown from 475 juniors participating from seven countries initially to 1100 participants every year representing from 54 countries today.
