CA admits Big Bash will not be a money spinner

Melbourne, May 5 (IANS) Cricket Australia (CA) has admitted that it would take some time to make the Big Bash Twenty20 league a money spinner until its new TV rights deal is struck.

The Age reported that CA has pinned its hopes for the game’s future prosperity on the revamped Big Bash, which it is racing to launch with eight city-based teams in December.

CA’s current media rights deal with Channel Nine and Foxtel does not expire until 2013 and Fox Sports will show the first two Big Bash seasons under the existing arrangement.

CA hopes the league will raise as much revenue as international cricket.

The board also said that it would take nearly a decade for Big Bash teams like Melbourne Stars, Sydney Thunder, Adelaide Strikers and Hobart Hurricanes to go down in the Australian sporting consciousness.
