twinMinneapolis, Oct 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Like every year, the annual Twin Cities Marathon was held on Sunday morning and the event witnessed the participation of thousands of enthusiastic runners. History was in the making at this year’s marathon as 23-year-old Buzunesh Deba of Ethiopia emerged victorious in the race and became the first women to win both the Twin Cities marathon as well as the Grandma Marathon the same year.

The Ethiopian native was the first to cross the finishing line within a time period of 2:27:24, clinching victory at the event by remaining ahead of the second position holder by eight minutes. The second slot was reserved by Russian runner Svetlana Ponomarenko who finished the race at 2:35:23 while Serkalem Abrha of Ethiopia became the third runner to cross the finishing line at 2:36:16. While reacting to her win at the race later, Buzunesh Deba said that as she was really working very hard for the event, she could have finished the race even faster. The winner also added that she had focused on completing the race by 2:26:51, a record that was set by Zinaida Semenova in the year 2001. If the men’s race women’s race had a nail biting finish then the men’s category of the race was also not far behind in which Californian native Sergio Reyes turned out to be the winner by finishing the race in 2:14:02.

The Twin Cities Marathon which is often referred to as ‘The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America’ took place for the very first time way back in the year 1982 and since then has been held every year with thousands of runners participating in it.
