Button insists he can win world title with McLaren
March 24th, 2011 - 5:21 pm ICT by ANILondon, Mar. 24 (ANI): Formula One 2009 champion Jenson Button move to McLaren has so far failed to deliver the platform from which he could build on his success with Brawn, but he insists that he will them a world title sooner than later.
Button had just two victories last season as his new team struggled to match the pace of Red Bull and then Ferrari. When asked whether he still believed McLaren offered him the best chance of joining the ranks of double world champions, he said: “”Of course, I haven’t doubted that at any time.”
“That is one of the reasons why I am here - two of the reasons why I am here. One because I would like to do it with another team and two because I would like to do it with McLaren, a team that has fought for so many world championships,” he added.Button believes Formula One is in an era of competitiveness which has rarely occurred before, and that the best place to be is with a team of McLaren’s experience.
“If you look at the last five years of the sport, we have had a different team win every year and a different driver win every year,” the Daily Mail quoted Button, as saying.
“This team gives me the best opportunity to win the world championship. I feel very at home here. When I win, I am not winning on my own. I am winning with this team around me. That means a lot to me,” he added. (ANI)
