Button confident of equaling Schumacher’s ‘three-peat’ at Albert Park
March 22nd, 2011 - 5:47 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Mar 22(ANI): Reigning Australian Grand Prix champion Jenson Button has said that he is confident of equaling Michael Schumacher’s record of three consecutive victories at Albert Park on Sunday.
Button is looking to equal Schumacher’s three-peat in 2000, 2001 and 2002.
“We’re not as prepared as what we’d like to be. You’d say that we’re not in such a good position like the Ferraris and the Red Bulls, but you never know when it comes to racing, things change around,” the Age quoted Button, as saying.
“We might surprise and I might get my third victory in a row. I still think the pace of the car is pretty good, we don’t know just how fast at the moment, but we have a very strong team and I think if anyone is going to find the best out of a car and get the best out of it on race weekend it’s definitely the Vodafone team,” he added.
The 31-year-old further believes that continuing his domination in Melbourne would be a career highlight.
“It would be pretty high on my list of achievements. Winning the world championship is the one that stands out, but winning three times on the same circuit is a nice feeling because it shows that you own that circuit,” Button said.
“I really like (the Melbourne track) and when you get a car that’s hooked up round there it’s such a nice feeling, it really is. It’s a fun circuit considering it is basically a street circuit. It’s a very fast going circuit, I enjoy it here and I hope our car enjoys it too,” he added. (ANI)
