Button backs Vettel to succeed him as F1’s new king
October 12th, 2010 - 3:08 pm ICT by ANILondon, Oct 12 (ANI): Formula One reigning champion Jenson Button has backed Sebastian Vettel to succeed him as F1’s new king this season.
The McLaren driver said he and teammate Lewis Hamilton are down, but not out of the title battle.
Button said German driver Vettel will see off fellow Red Bull driver Mark Webber if the team dominates the final three races of the season.
Vettel’s victory in Japan on Sunday took him level on points with Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso and 14 behind Webber, the championship leader
“Vettel has to beat Mark twice more to be on the same points. And going into the last race with equal points, I’d say Vettel has the legs in qualifying,” The Sun quoted Button, as saying.
“If those two cars have the advantage over everyone else, there won’t be pressure on Vettel and he will do it. But we will continue to fight. It is a lot harder for us to win the title now, but we won’t give up. Anything can happen in F1. We all know that,” he said.
Button is 31 points behind Webber while Hamilton’s is 28.
The next race is in South Korea on a new circuit, which was finished only a few days ago. (ANI)
