Butt denies coaching deals with Younis, Anwar
January 17th, 2010 - 2:38 pm ICT by ANIIslamabad, Jan.17 (ANI): Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ijaz Butt has rebuked reports regarding the board entering into a coaching deal with former players like Waqar Younis and Saeed Anwar.
“The story regarding Saeed Anwar holding a batting camp once the team returns from Australia is just media talk,” Butt said.
He also denied any long-term assignment for Younis, who was appointed bowling coach of the team for the ongoing series against Australia.
“Waqar also has television commitments, and the initial agreement with him was for just the tour of Australia. We will have to sit down with Waqar and see what his plans are for the future and whether he is available for any future tours, or whether we work with him on a series by series basis,” PakPassion.net quoted Butt, as saying.
It is worth mentioning here that Anwar had recently said that he is keen to share his experience with the younger players through which he can contribute something the Pakistan cricket.
“I will hold a training camp for openers after I had discussions with PCB chairman Ijaz Butt who wanted me to help resolve this issue of the national team not having a pair of reliable openers or good back up,” the former left-handed batsman had said.
Anwar, who had played 55 Tests and 247 one-day internationals, highlighted that Pakistan was not able to find a solid opening pair because players were not being given enough opportunities.
He also blamed the faulty domestic cricket set-up of the country for the poor technique of the players. (ANI)
