Bucketful condoms in Olympic Village trigger probe (Olympic Diary)
August 9th, 2012 - 6:10 pm ICT by IANS
London, Aug 9 (IANS) After being in the news that they are available in record numbers in the London Games, condoms are back in the limelight following an inquiry ordered when a bucket full of the unofficial latex was discovered.
The probe was launched after Australian cyclist Caroline Buchanan tweeted a picture of a bucket of unofficial “Kangaroo condoms”. Durex is the official sponsor and supplied a record 150,000 condoms to 10,500 athletes in the Games Village.
Buchanan also joked about the rumours of “rampant sex” in the Village during the Games. “Haha, the rumours are true. Olympic Village,” tweeted Buchanan.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) said it was probing into the matter after picture showed the bucket containing condoms from an Australian and a British company — both being Durex’s rivals.
The trend of supplying free condoms to the athletes during the Games was started at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992.

Bolt for Man United
As sprint king Usain Bolt made the world know about his desire to play for Manchester United (MU), star centre-back of the English premier league club Rio Ferdinand has jumped in to help the Jamaican sprinter fulfill his dream.
“People think I am joking. But if Alex Ferguson (MU manager) called me up and said, okay let’s do this, come and have a trial, it would be impossible for me to say no,” said Bolt after his stunning 9.63 sec at the 100 metres sprint.
“I would not take up the challenge if I didn’t think I was good enough. I am a very accomplished player and know I could make a difference. I would be the fastest player in the team — but I can play as well,” said the self-confessed diehard MU fan about his new dream.
Following Bolt’s revelation, Ferdinand, who is friends with the Jamaican, tweeted: “If you want that trial at Man Utd shout me, I’ll speak to the boss!! Well done in 100m.”
The lanky Bolt in reply tweeted: “After the Olympics we work on that … lol … thanks man.”

Patriotism on their nails!
While sportspersons are known for wearing their heart on their sleeves, female athletes at the London Games are wearing them on the nails — literally.
With the world watching their every move — and hoping they will be pictured holding a medal — athletes are adding stylish patriotism to their look with trendy nail art.
While Australian rower Renee Chatterton has the Aussie flag painted on her toenails, Japanese badminton player Reiko Shiota has all her 10 finger nails painted with flags of different nations, including that of her own.
Like her red-hot serve, gorgeous tennis player Caroline Wozniacki has her nails embellished with the red while a Danish flag finds a pride of place on her little finger.
British gymnast Lynne Hutchison is going for gold… with her nails, that is! The athlete tweeted a photo of her glitzy nail, detailed with Great Britain’s flag. “Got to be golden for our greatest team!” she tweeted.
Tennis superstar Venus Williams flashed the USA’s colours on her nails after her gold medal win, partnering sister Serena in the doubles match.
Others to wear the national colours on the nails include British freestyle swimmer Rebecca Adlington, Lithuania swimmer Ruta Meilutyte, and British archer Naomi Folkard to name a few.
