A lot of spectator booing and hostilities notwithstanding, WEC featherweight champion Mike Brown went on to defend his title defeating the formidable Urijah Faber in his own hometown.

Faber started the match aggressively with a straight right midway in the first round to the World Extreme Cage fighting feather weight champion but lost it thereafter. But “The California Kid” used all his speed to fight the strength and power of the former champion. But he injured that fast right hand in a blow and from then on it was about using his elbows as Brown closed in one punch after another. He went on to have an unanimous decision win. Speaking about the injured right hand, Faber commented, “That happened midway through the first round. I apologize. You know I like to go out there and bang straight up. My weapons were gone. I hurt both my hands and just stayed in there. I was all elbows after that. I’d love to get back in here and get another shot at this title.”

Overwhelmed after the match Brown said, “Urijah’s tough. I just couldn’t really get my gloves on his head. He’s a world class fighter, but it was just my night again. We’re the two best guys in the world [at 145 pounds].”

Brown has won 10 fights in a row, validating his position at the top of the sport and said, “I just can’t wait to see Urijah back in the mix. It looked like he damaged his hand a little bit somewhere in that fight. Maybe it would have been even more of a war. I knew he was hurting in there.”
