Ndamukong SuhDec. 08, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Cornhuskers had something to celebrate on Monday night despite the fact that they had lost to Texas in the Big 12 Conference match on Saturday. The tackle of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ndamukong Suh, was awarded the prestigious Bronko Nagurski trophy 2009, in honor of being the best defensive football player among all the teams in college football. He won the trophy beating a number of other players like Terrence Cody from Alabama, Pat Angerer of Iowa, Eric Berry of Tennessee and Jerry Hughes of the Texas Christians.

Ndamukong Suh was awarded the trophy at the Westin Hotel. A banquet was thrown in honor of the ceremony. The event was organized by the Charlotte Touchdown Club. The recipient of the award is decided by the votes of the members of the Football Writers Association Of America. The ceremony was featured by Tom O’Brien, the coach of the football team of the North Carolina State University. Erstwhile quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, Steve Beuerlein assumed the position of the master of the ceremony.

This seems to be the lucky time of the year for the defensive tackle. The Bronko Nagurski Award is not the only honor that Ndamukong Suh has been nominated for. He was also among the nominees for the Heisman Trophy. His nomination comes as a surprise, as it is hardly ever awarded to a defensive player. Receiving the award evidently left Ndamukong Suh very happy. He commented that the trophy was the defensive footballer’s version of the Heisman award. The other nominees also readily agreed that he was the one who deserved to win the most.
