British football player in serious condition after stabbing
August 23rd, 2009 - 3:45 am ICT by BNO NewsLONDON (BNO NEWS) — English football player Calum Davenport is in serious condition after being stabbed on Friday night, his club said on Saturday.
Calum Davenport, 26-year-old, is a centre back for West Ham United. According to the club, he and his mother both suffered stab wounds at their home in Bedford. Further details on the incident were not immediately released.
Davenport underwent surgery on Saturday morning and remains in serious condition. His mother is currently recovering from her injuries.
“The club’s medical team are in contact with hospital staff. The thoughts of everyone at West Ham are with Calum and his family and, due to the ongoing police investigation, no further information will be released at this time,” the club said.
Davenport joined the club in January, 2007 after signing a three and a half year contract.
