Brit-Muslim boxer Khan to quit sport by 2014
December 20th, 2010 - 1:42 pm ICT by ANILondon, Dec. 20 (ANI): Brit-Muslim pugilist Amir Khan has revealed that he plans to quit in four years - and fight Floyd Mayweather Jr in 12 months.
According to The Sun, the WBA light welterweight champion is targeting a unification fight with Devon Alexander or Timothy Bradley in 2011.
Then he will step up a division to take on Mayweather at welterweight in 2012.
Khan, 24, said: “I want to fight Mayweather before the end of 2011 or even in England at the beginning of 2012.
“It gives me time to mature and to get more experience. Right now I know I can go in that fight and probably go the distance but maybe fall short because of experience.
“In another three or four fights I’ll be ready for him. By then the experience, the speed, the power and the maturity will be there. It’s a fight that all the fans want to see and it will be made in 2012 I think.”
But Khan, still buoyant after the recent successful third defence of his title against Marcos Maidana in Las Vegas, says he will retire in four years.
He said: “Boxing is a short career. I’m looking at probably 28, retiring around that time.” (ANI)
