London, Jan 21 (ANI): Former world champion Oscar de la Hoya, who has taken the boxing world by storm through his company, has said that Amir Khan will one day be the face of the sport.

Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions signed up Khan following his split from British promoter Frank Warren, adding another globally recognised fighter to his stable.

Khan will make his American debut in April and his signing to De la Hoya is another step towards world domination for the American.

“Amir is one of the most talented fighters in the world at any weight,” said De la Hoya, who retired 13 months ago following a stoppage defeat by Manny Pacquiao.

“That talent, combined with his charismatic and outgoing personality, makes him a promoter’s dream and I feel it will one day lead him to being the face of boxing. He is a superstar in the making.”

Los Angles-based De la Hoya makes no secret of the fact that he wants his promotional company to be the biggest and best and, the Daily Express reports.

While Don King is still a significant player in many big-money match-ups, he is no longer the market leader when it comes to promoting the top clashes in Las Vegas and New York.

“We have come into the sport with a very businesslike, candid approach. Having been a fighter myself, I know some of the pitfalls and I know also that boxing has to provide a product which people want to watch,” said De la Hoya.

“We at Golden Boy Promotions want to give them that by arranging the best versus the best. That is all I want to see because I am first and foremost a boxing fan. That has always been my dream for the sport,” he added. (ANI)
