Aug 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The former Philadelphia Eagles running back, Brian Westbrook has entered into a one year, $1.2 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers. The team on Monday announced the induction of the player into the team during a press conference. Although the team will be paying $1.2 million, the player can make a fortune of a total of $2.5 million with the added incentives. In the new team, the player will be paired along with power runner Frank Gore of the San Francisco 49ers.
Announcing the deal in front of the media, the Coach of the San Francisco 49ers, Mike Singletary said to media sources that he was thankful that a player like Brian Westbrook was still available for deal. Mike Singletary said that he is thankful that Brian Westbrook was “an option”. The coach mentioned that he had said to the player that there would be times when Frank Gore will “take a blow” and Brian Westbrook had to take the lead. Brian Westbrook will most probably take the position which Glen Coffee was supposed to take in the team. The latter has recently announced that he had decided to retire from the game.
Brian Westbrook was released by the Philadelphia Eagles this February after a season marred with injuries. He was able to play only 8 games last season under the Philadelphia Eagles. However, the two-times Pro-Bowler has been able to maintain a good career record and there is no doubt about the fact that his catches out of the backfield as well as run the ball records are hard to miss. In his eight seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Brian Westbrook has a record of 9,785 in yards from scrimmage.
