Brett Rogers knocks out Andrei Arlovsk in 22 seconds
June 7th, 2009 - 8:31 pm ICT by GDThe former UFC champion Andrei Arlovsk came into his Strikeforce heavyweight clash with Brett Rogers with all the odds in his favor. Be it experience, skills, victories - Arlovsk had it all. While on the other hand Rogers a.k.a. Brett ‘the Grim’ Rogers came in with a 9-0 undefeated record and powerful hands with the potential of putting out the lights of any opponent at any time. And in this heavyweight bout he just did that with a stunning 22-second knock out.
It took Rogers only 22 seconds and one firm punch to knock the lights off the Belarusian sambo, boxing, kickboxing, wrestling master Andrei Arlovsky, who is apparently also a Brazilian Ji-jut-su, legend in front of 12,000 spectators. The initial 21 seconds of the bout was spent by the two in circling each other, both of them waiting for the opportune moment to land a punch and on the 22nd second Arlovsky was on the floor, knocked out.
After briefly getting the feel of the floor and the occasion, on the 22nd second Brett suddenly stepped forward and drove a combination of punches, following which Arlovsky first took to his heels and then floor. The referee had no other option left than to award Rogers the TKO win.
Arlovsky, who off late had been rallying about making a run at a heavyweight boxing title sending clear signals that he was getting bored with lack of opponents that could match him. In Brett Rogers, it seemed that he had finally met his match and when the moment arrived to show what he had got, Arlovsky could not even last more than 22 seconds.
