Brazil sacks coach Dunga, three others
July 5th, 2010 - 8:25 pm ICT by IANSRio De Janeiro, July 5 (IANS) The Brazilian football governing body has sacked coach Dunga and three others following the five-time champions’ quarterfinal defeat against Holland in the World Cup football.
Brazilian Confederation of Soccer (CBF) president Ricardo Teixeira announced that Dunga, his assistant coach Jorginho, supervisor Americo Faria and team doctor Jose Luiz Runco were relieved of their duties.
The CBF said it will decide on Dunga’s successor by the end of July, BuaNews reported Monday.
The name of Brazil’s former coach, Luis Felipe Scolari, or “Big Phil” is being speculated to take over the reins from Dunga.
However, Scolari, the coach of Palmeiras, said his only focus right now is the Palmeiras soccer team.
Another name loosely mentioned is the coach of Corinthians, Mano Menezes. However, the President of Corinthians, Andres Sanches, scotched such speculation.
A third possibility is Vanderlei Luxemburgo, currently the head coach of Atletico-MG.
Dunga, 46, who led Brazil to World Cup win in 1994, had been the coach of the national team since 2006. Brazil lost the quarterfinal match to Holland 2-1 in Port Elizabeth Friday.
Brazil, who is hosting the World Cup in 2014, have a couple of friendly matches scheduled later this year.
