Nov. 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Brandon Spikes was taped on video in the match between Florida and Georgia on Saturday. The Florida linebacker was caught on tape apparently committing a very serious offense. The video shows him gouging the eyes of the running back of Georgia, Washuan Ealey. The offense is pretty grave, as it can lead to blindness for the person whose eyes are being gouged. Spikes’ action was terribly offensive and has brewed quite some agitation regarding the conduct of players on the field.
The incident happened after he had made a tackle. This was not the first time that he had taken an aggressive measure on the field, but definitely the first time that he allowed himself to portray such aggressiveness. It is quite surprising that Spikes did not see the consequences of his thoughtless action. A player can be fined up to $10,000 for doing something like this on the field. The players can also be disqualified or even suspended. The video showed him shoving his hand inside Ealey’s helmet. He was not immediately flagged, but coach Urban Meyer said that he would have a serious talk with him on Sunday. There are even talks that he might be suspended, unless he can pay up the huge fine.
There are some opinions from some quarters on Spikes’ defense. Some onlookers say that his action was quite justified as the Georgia players had been pulling his hair and attempting to tear off his helmet. However, it was Spikes’ offense that was caught on camera, and he might have to face serious charges for it.
