boston1Boston, Apr 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Around half a million spectators and thousands of runners have gathered in the city of Boston today to watch and participate in the Boston Marathon. Being touted as “Marathon Monday” today sees the otherwise quiet city of Boston buzzing with activity. This year marks the 114th year of the “Boston Marathon” which is an annual event in the city.

The runners had to cover a total distance of 26.2 miles in today’s event which started at 10 am in the morning. However, that figure did not cover every contestant taking part in the event. Some who were physically handicapped and had to remain seated on their wheelchairs and also women who took part in the event had to cover a much shorter distance. The weather forecast had already been made earlier and there were no significant changes in the conditions at the time of the run. The temperature was in the 50s with a partly cloudy and partly sunny sky.

The runners in the Monday Marathon had to cover the entire path starting from Hopkinton then entering the Boston suburban lands of Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton and Brookline, ultimately reaching the end of the course at the heart of Copley Square.

Today in Boston, there is one group of people cheering for two special contestants in the “Boston Marathon”. These special two were Jane Couto and her brother Keith Coudo from Rhode Island. It seems that the siblings had a large group of supporters cheering loudly for them to win.
