Karachi, April 19(ANI): The tennis duo comprising Rohan Bopanna of India and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan have improved their ATP doubles ranking by two positions after they made it to the semifinals of the Monte Carlo ATP Masters tournament.
According to the latest rankings released by the ATP World Tour, the Indo-Pak Express are now ranked at number six, a double-hop from their pre-tournament rank of eighth, and a testament to their ever-improving performances in big tournaments.
Qureshi and Bopanna, who are making their first appearance in Monte Carlo, had registered a 6-1, 7-5 win over the grand-slam winning pair of Daniel Nestor and Max Mirny in their quarterfinal clash.
They were, however, handed a surprise defeat by the unseeded South American pair of Juan Ignacio Chela (Argentina) and Bruno Soares (Brazil) in the semifinal, the Dawn reported.
Both have been climbing up the ladder individually as well, with Qureshi now ranking at number 11, one up from his previous position of 12 in the doubles players’ rankings, and Bopanna improving his individual doubles ranking from 15 to 14.
The sixth seeded Bopanna- Qureshi duo is now in Spain to participate in the Barcelona Open- an ATP World Tour (500) event, which is scheduled to run from April 18 to 24.
Apart from being praised for their skills on court, Bopanna and Aisam have been receiving accolades from the western media for their humanitarian goals and bringing the two countries closer. (ANI)
