Bookie nabbed in Jalandhar with over 70 mobile phones
October 3rd, 2009 - 3:53 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Jalandhar, Oct 3 (IANS) A bookie was arrested here on charges of running an illegal betting racket for the Champions Trophy being played in South Africa. Over 70 mobile phones were recovered from his possession, police said Saturday.
Besides the mobile phones, two laptops, two television sets, seven set-top boxes and other equipment were recovered from bookie Surinder Singh, police said.
His three accomplices managed to escape.
Police raided the premises of the bookie in Chadha market area of this city late Friday night.
“We are investigating the matter and trying to find out other people involved in this racket,” a police official said.
