Bolt yet to confirm his participation in Delhi Games
December 2nd, 2009 - 9:42 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 2 (IANS) Triple Olympic and World champion Usain Bolt has not confirmed his participation for 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games, said his manager Ricky Simms, contrary to claims of Organising Committee (OC) chairman Suresh Kalmadi.
Bolt’s manager Simms said the star sprinter is still to make up his mind on his participation and will decide next year.
“I have spoken to Bolt’s coach Glen Mills, who confirmed that no decision will be made about Usain’s participation in the Commonwealth Games until May-June 2010 when he starts racing in the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) Diamond League,” Simms was quoted as saying on a sports website ‘Insidethegames.com’.
Kalmadi, on the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Goverment Meeting (CHOGM) summit at Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, said Bolt would be the star attraction in the Delhi Games scheduled Oct 3-14.
“I have not said anywhere that he has committed to participate,” Kalmadi said Wednesday.
“There is still a long way to go for the Games. I only said that I have asked the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, and CWG chief Michael Fennell, who is from Jamaica, that it would be great if Usain Bolt participates,” Kalmadi said.
