bob_feller1Dec 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) His full name was Robert William Andrew Feller, but was fondly called Rapid Robert, and Bob Feller. He was and he continues to be the greatest professional athlete to be born of Iowa. Anything said about this Hall Of fame veteran is not enough. An amazing human being by nature, Bob Feller was a real gentleman, just aggressive on the field and right at every step. He continued to remain so till his last breath. After those several miles, those huge number of autographs, those curveballs, and all those memories, on Wednesday, Feller ultimately joined that huge pitching rotation of the universe. If ever the angels required a stopper, they could be sure of getting the best.

At the tender age of 16, Bob Feller signed his very first professional contract. The following year, he made a name for himself in the community of Philadelphia Athletics. This created a new record in the American League. In the history of baseball, he was the only one to have hit the only Opening Day no-hitter. Bob Feller boasts to be the first major-league ballplayer who volunteered for combat service during the Second World War. When 23 years old, he enlisted a day post the Pearl Harbor attack. He became a gun captain aboard. The greatest pitcher ever to be born was Bob Feller. During 1936 and 1937 seasons he was the youngest player in the American League.

He has 26 winning games to his credit and in 1962, he entered the Hall of Fame. It is an unenviable reality of life for people who are directly or indirectly related to Bob Feller, as he passed away at the age of 92.
