Bob and Mike Bryan open up on 60 Minutes
March 22nd, 2010 - 7:50 pm ICT by Pen Men At Work ( Leave a comment )March 22, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Tennis is a starry game, which has quite a few top players, like Federer, Nadal, the Williams sisters and so on. But all of them happen to be singles players. The doubles part of tennis continues to remain in the dark. The big name in the doubles matches will have to be just one of the Bryans.
The Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike, have never been in the limelight because doubles tennis has always been ignored. But the brothers are here to change that. The identical brothers are fired up with their mission to popularize doubles tennis.
Bob and Mike have their own peculiar traits. They like celebrating each win in one single way: they jump towards each other and bump their chests. They have 58 professional titles and have just four trophies left to break an all-time record for tennis doubles.
Recently, when they were on 60 Minutes, they were asked if they are the best doubles players in the world. The twins shrugged together and replied that they certainly liked to think that way.
Both of them do everything together and at the same time. Maybe it’s part of them being identical twins. Mike feels that they complement each other well and both of them feel that if put together, they make one really good player.
60 Minutes correspondent Lesley Stahl asked them if they realized how coordinated they were all the time. Bob agreed that it was strange because they would both jump around and then suddenly grab their racquets. It often freaks them out.
Bob and Mike are mirror identicals as Bob is a little heavier, taller and left handed while Mike is a righty. When Bob and Mike spoke to Stahl after a practice match, they revealed that they sometimes felt they could read each other’s minds. When asked what the main advantage of being twins was, they stated that it was never giving up on each other. They express that when other teams play badly, they start to feel that they might be deserted by their partner. But they know that they are never doing that. They never even leave each other on or off court.
The Bryans are 31 years old and live together. Both of them have girlfriends but they all still live together. They have been un-separated since birth. They were introduced to tennis by their parents, Wayne and Kathy.
