London, May 22(ANI): Blackpool and Cardiff City will go head to head at Wembley today in a game dubbed as the richest match in club football.
The winners of the Football League Championship play-off final stand to gain around 90 million pounds, up 50 percent on the value of last year’s promotion prize.
The winner-takes-all game will also propel one of the sides into the next season’s Premier League.
“This match offers the winning club the most substantial prizes in world football,” The Sun quoted Paul Rawnsley, of financial experts Deloitte, as saying. “It provides the opportunity for sound investment and strengthening the foundations of a club for years to come,” he added.
The 90 million pound amount will dwarf the 36 million pound prize on offer in tonight’s Champions League final between Inter Milan and Bayern Munich.
Blackpool booked their place in the play-off final with a DJ Campbell hat-trick, which helped them to come from behind to overcome Nottingham Forest.
Cardiff’s semi-final had a dramatic penalty shootout against Leicester City. (ANI)
