mma_penn_hughes3x_576Auburn Hills, Nov 21, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It did not take more than half a minute for B.J. Penn to knock down Matt Hughes. It took just 21 minutes for the champion to end the game with four clean punches on the ground in the UFC 123, resorting to a remarkable counter right hand. The match took place at The Palace of Auburn Hills in Auburn Hills and it did not graduate to the second round. This was an embarrassing defeat for Matt Hughes.

The wicked champion addressed his opponent, Matt Hughes as his “idol”. He also said that he would continue to remain his idol. The match, that lasted for only 21 seconds was dominantly one sided. Matt Hughes had no game to play as B.J. Penn put him down on his back and finished the game, leaving the defeated nearly unconscious. Matt Hughes said that his opponent had hit him really hard and he could not differentiate whether it was a knee or a kick. His defeat was via KO (strikes). Right now, B.J. Penn’s record stands at 2-3, considering both wins coming over Matt Hughes. For the fans of B.J. Penn, his Saturday night victory is considered to be the beginning of a title run and not the end of a career. Previously, he underwent consequent back-to-back decision losses to lightweight Frankie Edgar. On that note, his victory against Matt Hughes in the welterweight is way better.

After the victory, the very confident welterweight champion said that welterweights are a slower but stronger, while lightweights are not as strong but they are faster. He said that both of them involve different challenges and he does not know where he fits best. However, he is ready for both. B.J. Penn will now face Jon Fitch on February 27 in Sydney.
