Stateline, Nevada, July 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Billy Joe Tolliver, registered his third victory at the American Century Championship in a 54-hole golf tournament at Lake Tahoe, California on Sunday. The former NFL quarterback delivered a scintillating performance in the tournament that was held at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf course with a record 84 points in the modified Stableford system at the competition which pits entertainment and sports celebrities against each other.
His victory in the celebrity tournament must have indeed been extremely special for Billy Joe Tolliver, not only because it enabled him to take home the whopping prize money of $125,000 but also because it was his third win at the competition after reserving victories in 1996 as well as in 2005. While the 44-year-old former NFL and CFL player grabbed the first slot in the tournament, Dallas Cowboys’ quarterback Tony Romo, actor Jack Wagner, former Denver Broncos player John Elway and former baseball pitcher John Smoltz also tied in the second position with 19 points behind Billy Joe Tolliver. The former NFL quarterback was able to reserve win in a spectacular fashion with 84 points beating the last record holder Atlanta Falcons quarterback Chris Chandler who had won the celebrity tournament in 2007 with 78 points.
While reacting to his victory, Billy Joe Tolliver revealed that he had no intentions of straying away from the game plan which he had followed throughout the championship during Sunday’s final round and planned to hit the shots he always played. His decision surely paid off during yesterday’s ultimate round in the tournament as he was successful in clinching the dazzling trophy later.
