Baton Rogue, October 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The weekend has been quite exciting for the fans of Billy Cannon who won the LSU Heisman Trophy in 1959. Cannon was expected to be present at Tiger Stadium during a match. He is still popular among the fans for the match that LSU had played with Florida fifty years back. Apart from this match, quarterback of the Louisiana State University team had made huge contributions for his team.

Billy Cannon was the part of the LSU national championship winning team. He had played under the celebrated coach Paul Dietzel. Following the wonderful season of 1958, Cannon performed well in 1959 and was honored with the prestigious Heisman Trophy. Cannon’s excellent score of 598 yards rush and eight kickoffs made for 191 yards with seven touchdowns earned him the honor.

Fans’ excitement doubled when they came to know that Paul Dietzel, the celebrated coach for the LSU team will also be present in the stadium. The game of 1959 still excites the fans. The excitement did not last for long as the Tigers were defeated by the Gators in the match.

Quarterback Tim Tebow was not sure for the match but this was not a cause of worry for the team. Gators had built an excellent defense for the match and it was their defense that made them defeat Tigers in their home ground.

Charlie Strong, the defense coordinator for Gators had done an excellent job in the match. The strong defense of Gators did not leave much opportunity for Tigers to win the match. Gators won national championship 2008 and they want to retain their fame this year.
