Indianapolis, Nov. 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) New England coach Bill Belichick is under fire for making the rather rash decision of attempting a fourth down conversion with a little time left in the match when the team was already six points behind the Colts. New England subsequently lost the match, leading to a lot of speculation about the possible reasons for the defeat. Much of the damage ids being attributed to the players, but the lion’s share of the blame seem to have been awarded to the coach.
The game was in it’s fourth quarter, with only two minutes and eight seconds left. The ball was with the Patriots 28. The Patriots could have punted away the chance, which would have awarded them the chance to utilize the one timeout they had not yet used and score a touchdown on it. Instead of going by this plan, Belichick ordered the players to go for the ball. Soon enough, the Patriots as had lost the game. The loss came even more bitter as the team was playing really well and but for the one mistake made by the coach, they had come this close to winning the match.
It is therefore not surprising that Bill Belichick seems to have a lot to answer for following the game. The situation would possibly have been better if the Patriots had a time out left and the chance was there to review the ruling. However, Bill Belichick had used up all the timeouts in the second half. Some people, though, supported Belichicks’s decision, saying that it took a lot of confidence to take a stand like that at such a crucial moment.
